Get Physical’s next release is set to be a big one, with Pezzner on the beats and Aquarius Heaven providing his trademark vocals.
A long-time label associate, Pezzner writes, composes and teaches electronic music to a consistently high standard and releases it on Visionquest and Freerange. He recently returned on Get Physical with his excellent Squares EP and here links with Aquarius Heaven aka Brian Brewster. He’s an artist brought up between Texas and the Caribbean who has laid down some compelling, socially and politically minded verses on magical EPs for labels like Wolf & Lamb and Circus Company. Fusing reggae, dancehall, house and hip hop, he is a unique talent and with Pezzner he achieves stunning results.
The spellbinding ‘We Are Not Who We Are’ has darkened, driving house drums and edgy synth riffs getting you on your toes. Whispered, paranoid sounding vocals from Aquarius Heaven add intensity and make the journey that bit more involving. Loose, woody hits and swirling pads all add up to a mesmerising dance floor adventure. It’s the sort of drawn out and dramatic track that will become a real anthem, while a Pezzner Dub strips things back to the urgent, Detroit styled deep house drums and layers in plenty of xylophones and soft chords to make it a majestic and late night trip.
The same dub then gets the vocal put back in for spine tingling results and the acapella is also included on its own for those who want to tease the crowd with Aquarius Heaven’s unsettling yet alluring vocal.
This is a big but well-crafted single with a unique sense of dance floor charm.
