We Love, the Ibiza institution started by Darren Hughes have just announced it will be taking over each Wednesday for a 16 week run from the 17th of June through to the 30th of September, at the fastest growing club on the island, Sankeys. Moving on after 17 years at former home Space, a re-imagined, boutique We love… will be bringing a diverse range of selectors and demonstrating for yet another season why it is the pinnacle of clubbing on the island and with its old school roots in acid house, Sankeys was the only brand with a legacy to match it, making the synergy between both electric.
Now ready to announce their incredible opening party on the 17th of June, We Love at Sankeys Ibiza will be pairing the chart topping, Black Butter Records artists Rudimental, bringing with them their drum and bass influenced sounds. Joining the line up from the Black Butter Records crew is the leading face of the UK forward thinking house scene Kidnap Kid. Alongside will be Nvoy, also of the Black Butter Records family, known for their low slung, RnB infused house. Headlining the basement for the opening night will be The 2 Bears, injecting the groove onto the dancefloor, drawing upon their rich pallet to deliver sets that showcase their truly divers taste. Adding to the already packed line up is fellow London DJ and Production legend T.Williams, with a career spanning Grime, UK Bass and now his much lauded take on house music, in a scene famed for its short-termism T.Williams longevity is testament to his ability to bring the vibes to any party, as such Sankeys Ibiza is the perfect setting for him. Rounding out the line up is Kaz James, a rare breed of DJ who has balanced chart success with an undiluted love of underground club music, making him the perfect fit for We Love. Jason Bye, a We Love stalwart will be filling the resident slot.
Across the 16 week run We Love will be bringing to the island, UK and Fabric associate Daniel Avery, Dutch house duo Detroit Swindle and one of UKs most buzzed house act and slick production duo Dusky. Friend Within, hotly tipped for greatness by the likes of Annie Mac, join Gorgon City and Huxley to deliver more of the Uks finest sun kissed sounds. Ivan Smagghe adds his Parisian flair to the booth and relative newcomer Jasper James, adding fresh impetus to the island, join long standing We Love affiliate Justin Robertson on the schedule. Legendary Scottish selector Optimo bookends an age gap to youngster SG Lewis, Theo Kottis of Moda Black/Get Physical fame sound contrasts with Zac Samuel take on club music, again demonstrating We Love’s commitment to genre-less programming and soul focus on the energy levels on the dancefloor. Partnering with long standing club brand Bugged out and relative new comers to the scene Eton Messy exemplifies We love’s effortless ability to maintain ties with its long standing roots yet constantly remain on the cusp of forward thinking dance music.
We Love’s… place on the island has been long standing since its inception, as Space’s flagship Sunday session it brought a blend of artists to the island from its first night in 1999, maintaining over the years its statute as having one of the finest curated line ups each season. With a melting pot of music styles and not beholden to one genre, We Love brought massive names and paired them with underground talent, showcasing some of the finest DJs and live acts. To do this whilst remaining at the forefront of the scene and maintain its connection with the clubbers attending over such a time frame is testament to the dedication, perspiration and vision of those behind We love.
Its new inception sees Darren Hughes brings the original acid house ideals from We Love and inputs a unique, boutique version into Ibiza’s latest heavy weight Sankeys. Working together once again with Danny Whittle, who Darren originally started running events with in Ibiza and joining David Vincent, these three are set to define We Love’s second coming. As ever forward thinking and drawing from the broadest musical spectrum, We Love is not affiliated with just one scene, but rather encapsulates a free spirited, hedonistic approach to Ibiza clubbing which signifies why it has remained a force on the island for almost two decades. This philosophy will be taken to Wednesdays at Sankeys where the spirit of We Love will sustain, in a new remained context.
Darren Hughes – ‘My answers have been this, ‘ to answer why I have decided to leave Space is like asking me why I decided to leave my family home at 17, or why I decided to approach James Barton to start Cream in 1992, or why I left Cream in 1998, or start Home at Space / We Love Space in 1999, the answer is the same, it felt like it had come to the point of change, to leave or to start, it is the same.
What We Love was at Space was a 17 year journey, one that is now behind me, however, what is in front of me is what We Love Sankeys will be, made by the people who will produce it, with myself, the people closest to the project, the artists who will play, and the people who will come to the events, this has no number attached to it, We Love will not be trying to reproduce what it was for 1, 2,3, or 10,000 people, it is a new beginning, and that is the key to what will follow. Lets find out what will be, together.”
Expect acts as genre spanning as Daniel Avery to Hannah Wants, residencies from artists intimately connected to We Love, like Sasha who was there at the start of the We Love Parties and will be there to launch the Sankeys installment of the brands journey. With Sankeys two main rooms the diversity of We Love will be celebrated across each lineup, not limited to just House and Techno, with acts like Sasha, to Hannah Wants, Gorgon City to James Zabiela to Rudimental and everything in between! The forward thinking, unrestrained emotions built around We Love, which will be exacerbated by its new home at Sankeys. This is what defines the brand and its this passion which drives acts when performing to hold nothing back. With Sankeys packing a bespoke Void sound system, something which Darren insisted perfected the We love experience acts as a twelfth man that is sure to take the energy in the club to palpable levels
The strength of We Love has always been its exemplary residents, from the very beginning it was these selectors whose championed the We Love philosophy from DJ booth to dance floor. This season’s residents include Jason Bye and Andy Baxter, two men who perpetuate the ideals of We Love and 2 Vilas, born and bred Ibicenco’s who knows both the island, its clubbers and the music that moves them intimately. Also joining We Love is artist Kaz James, who can play across the spectrum with anyone from Seth Troxler to Erick Morillo, who will be holding down a bi-weekly residency.
2 Villas Quote:
We feel very fortunate to be part of the We Love and Sankeys family. We grew up in Ibiza going to We Love and listening to all the amazing talent they bring to their parties, this is why we are so proud to become part of it and especially if it’s in a club like Sankeys. For us one of the clubs with the best underground scene in the world. We are looking forward to playing at We Love Sankeys!
With a genre smashing approach and not restraining themselves by championing just one sound, We Love have put together one of the most diverse line-ups this season, we truly believe its all about this wide breadth of music
