For the latest release on Reptile Dysfunction label, we present a VA EP comprising some of the extraordinary talent Doorly has unearthed on his travels: seven eclectic, left-of-centre house records for the wonky generation.
Over to Doorly to explain his motives and to introduce the gang…
One of my main reasons for setting up Reptile Dysfunction was to shine the light on some of the amazing fresh talent I meet on the road, and to start to build a little crew to be part of my label family. I wanted to use this release as an opportunity to introduce you to these guys with a track from each of them to give you a little taster.
Josh Newsham I got to know properly when he was working as an artist liaison at a gig I was playing at Sankeys in Manchester. I really liked the idea he had for ‘Trip to Medina’ so I decided to give it a little massage with my sausage fingers work on the track together and here you have it. Colour Castle are from Sydney Australia. We played a bonkers show together in Byron Bay and got on like brothers separated at birth, so we decided to work on a couple of collabs together. This track, 'Stay Hungry’, I thought was a perfect fit for Reptile Dysfunction—nice, warm, funky, nonsensical house music!
Blantyre is a fellow Ibiza Local, he's lived on the island for years and he's a lovely, lovely man. He gave me this track on a USB stick of demos at a BBQ a while ago and I have been playing it ever since. Charlie Rope is one of my team of young residents for my Ibiza Based Doorly & Friends parties on the Island. The boy has been on fire and we will be releasing his first full EP on Reptile Dysfunction in autumn, but here's a teaser of his bouncy, sample based vibes. Mobula aka Rory Lyons is the brand new alias for a long time collaborator and friend of mine. He actually gave me my first break in Ibiza 12 years ago when he was playing for Ibiza Rocks as Cassette Jam. To follow this one up we also have a two track collab EP coming out together this summer.
And last but by no means least we have the boy Griff. He's another one of my team of awesome selectors I bring in to set the tone at my Doorly & Friends parties, and one of the most fun people to be around at an afterparty on the planet! Griff will feature a track on the first Reptile Dysfunction Vinyl Disco Edits release in August, and this track ‘Pawn the Monkey’ is cheeky and fun.
I'm fully confident that you will be hearing a lot more from all the guys featured on this EP, not least on Reptile Dysfunction where I’m helping them put together their first full EPs.
