Youth Control Records Welcomes Back Smok With New Single ‘Desire’

Following their landmark 50th release, which saw longtime label favourite Rony Rex celebrate a decade of his musical career with his ‘10’ compilation, independent Finnish dance label, Youth Control, is back with another immersive dance. It comes from the dynamic producer, Smok, who delivers an enslaving new single ‘Desire’ featuring the talented UK-based singer/songwriter, SOPHIE MARIE. Instantly gripping, ‘Desire’ builds around an immersive sonic bed of afro-tinged percussion and punchy drum grooves alongside expansively resonant synths, silky strings and progressive layers of supplementing musicality from beginning to end. A mix flooded with movement and harmony, ‘Desire’ comes together with a captivating vocal topline, delivered flawlessly by SOPHIE MARIE.

On ‘Desire’, Smok says: “Making Desire was a long process but the time I spent honing it was worthwhile and I’m really happy how it turned out and I’m honored I got to work with SOPHIE MARIE as her vocals perfectly highlights the essence of Desire and its vibe.”

Smok, also known as Juha Moisala, hails from Oulu in Northern Finland. His DJing debut on the local club circuit dates back to 2002, and he has since become a cornerstone of the deep house music community in Northern Finland. His evolution from club-goer to DJ and now music producer has been a progressive journey during which he has refined his auditory and production abilities.

Smok’s preference for deep house resonates in his works released on various labels, including the well-received singles ‘Dance Tonight’ on unquantize (DJ Spen remix) and ‘Helix’ on Atjazz, plus various others on Viva, Phat Elephant, Salted Music and Youth Control.

These releases have made their mark in Traxsource Deep House charts and have garnered the support of artists such as Shur-I-Kan, Funk D’Void, Murray Richardson, Satoshi Fumi, Stacey Pullen, Tom Lown, Simbad, Jask, Dave Mayer, Sander Van Doorn and The Magician. In addition to his original productions, Smok’s remixes are sought after, thanks to his collaborations with artists like JEPE, TJH87, Jupiter, and Tom & Hills.

Smok’s tracks have also made their way into notable collections such as Toolroom’s Ibiza 2019, Deep House, and Poolside Croatia 2016. Keep an eye on this understate artist as he continues his ascent in the deep house scene.

Boutique Finnish label, publisher and party brand Youth Control has always discovered homegrown talent and successfully brought them to the wider world, gaining support from big name DJs such as Armand Van Helden, Steve Aoki and Todd Edwards, as well as high profile radio plays on the likes of BBC Radio 1. After a brief hiatus, the label began another epic journey to uncover the best hidden gems in its homegrown scene. 2023 has seen a flood of cutting-edge releases from a roster of exciting producers including Per2, Noana, Rony Rex, Rosito, and Heal 64.

Smok ‘Desire (Feat. SOPHIE MARIE)’ is released via Youth Control Records on 24th November.  Download/stream here: https://ingrv.es/desire-3aa-1.
