60 Seconds with Buranello

Hi Buranello, for those who don’t know you, please introduce yourself.

Hello Ihouseu! I am a 23-year-old DJ/Producer from Maresias Beach, Brazil.

How did you get into DJing?

I always wanted to mix songs together endlessly. Before getting into music production, I started a DJ course. So, DJing came first for me.

And when did you release your first production?

My first release was in 2022 with my track “Dark Sky”.

Who or what inspires your productions?

I get my inspiration from being in contact with nature. In those peaceful moments, I can disconnect from everything and let my creativity flow.

Describe your sound in 5 words.

Natural, memorable, groovy, evolving, and infectious.

Your brilliant new release, “Marika”,  has just been released on David Morales’ DIRIDIM label. Are you pleased with how it sounds?

I am very happy with how “Marika” turned out. It represents my own vision of progressive grooves.

What was the inspiration behind the release?

For “Marika”, I wanted to create something memorable and strong to ignite the dance floor, with moments of tension and release throughout the track.

What’s your studio set-up like?

My set-up is pretty basic. I have my studio monitors, audio interface, and keyboard always ready to fire up. Aside from that, I also have an Ableton Push and a few analog synthesizers on the way.

When in the studio, do you have any rituals or bad habits?

I tend not to pressure myself into creating something good when I don’t have a concrete idea in mind. I usually just sit there and make melodies and grooves until something comes up.

Aside from your formal training, gaining a Bachelor of Arts in Music Production and Sound Engineering at Point Blank, you recently attended a Mixmasters production retreat in Ibiza. How useful are these types of events for up-and-coming producers, and what did you gain from the experience?

Other than the learning experience, these events are very good for networking with like-minded individuals. On this occasion, I got very inspired to hear about the personal stories and views of the coaches. I also learned techniques that will help me with my workflow and future productions.

What’s been your biggest achievement in music so far?

My biggest achievement was being recognized by David Morales himself.

And your biggest hurdle?

In contrast to my biggest achievement, my biggest hurdle has been the difficulty of being taken seriously when you are a younger DJ/producer.

What has been your best DJ gig so far this year?

My most memorable gig this year was a recent one at a club called Dhaus in Campinas, Brazil.

If you could play a B2B set with any DJ in the world, who would it be?

I have a few names, but right now it would be Nick Warren.

What are your thoughts on the current electronic dance music scene?

The scene is very versatile and always evolving. I believe electronic music is very popular at the moment and still growing in popularity, opening doors for new talents and styles to emerge.

What are your top 3 current tracks of the moment?

Buranello – Marika – Original Mix – Diridim

Komashov – Me Encanta – Original Mix – Abracadabra

Sasha, Super Flu – Astra – Original Mix – Last Night on Earth

What’s next for Buranello?

Buranello has some very special collaborations and upcoming gigs to be announced.

Buranello ‘Marika’ is out now on DIRIDIM Records.
