Written in five minutes by the band’s frontman, a frontline 999 ambulance worker, and built on the permanence of love set against the temporary nature of life, the track carries the emotional charge of the moment that created it straight through to the final mix. The band’s decision to record it true to the sound of their instruments and vocals, with no extra trimming or double tracking, pays off, giving the song a rawness that matches its subject matter.
Part of a five-single collection recorded at Mill Farm Studios and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Shawn Joseph, ‘The Game’ draws on influences including The Beta Band, John Martyn and Spiritualized, and earns its comparisons to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Verve and The Stone Roses. Amelia Vandergast of A&R Factory called the band about to steal the scene, and a Spanish rock culture magazine praised the huge guitar tones and raw vocal energy running through the record.
