Whitney Fierce - Whitney Fierce – Broken Car Window Remixed
Rock It Science Laboratories is pleased to introduce the debut release from Los Angeles rabble-rouser Whitney Fierce, backed by a quintet of fresh remixes. Though this may be her first solo release, Whitney is already quite seasoned within the dance music world. As a vocalist, she was a touring member of Hercules and Love Affair (singing on their DJ Kicks single “Release Me”) and provided guest vocals for Subb-an’s Vapour Trails EP on Crosstown Rebels. Whitney’s DJ exploits are also extensive, with gigs across the country and internationally (such as playing for Dior in Paris) … but, most notably, Whitney Fierce has recently held the distinction of being New Order’s tour DJ.
The Broken Car Window EP defines Whitney’s self-described ‘dream house’ sound within its two tracks; they are subtle, sexy, and deep. “The Night Air” combines moody chimes, strings, and bass lines with intricate percussion while her vocals recall a warm night cruising in her Corvette. “Breath” is a darker, headier affair … it features evocative moonlit textures, ominous whispers, and echoed snatches of Whitney’s vocals in a strangely cinematic blend.
Both tracks are remixed distinctively by some of the top players in the RIS Labs family. “The Night Air” comes first, with Munich-based luminary Justin Faust (Discotexas / Nurvous) pulling it into a summertime house groove. It’s got loads of bounce and big, fuzzy chords. RIS Labs ringleader Eric Sharp then effectively twists the track into a brighter, more upbeat bass house direction. Give In (RIS Labs / Dirtybird) goes for a funky, mid-tempo groove that merges tech-house and nu-disco elements in a floor-filling fashion. Human Movement (Exposure Music) finally transforms “The Night Air” into a driving dark banger with immaculate production that hits like a ton of bricks. “Breath” is not left out of the remix queue … Brooklyn native Curses (Throne of Blood / Safer At Night) gives it a brilliant revision, taking it into blissful deep techno territory. Top notch quality all around.
