TEPR - 1980

Combining lush electro-pop elements with driving techno undertones, French producerTEPR (a.k.a. Tanguy Destable) releases lead single ‘1980’ from his forthcoming album onParlophone France / WMG.

Whether progressive house, hyper-modern electronica or classic techno, TEPR has proven himself to be a producer of serious talent and impeccable pedigree, and ‘1980’ – named afterTEPR’s birth year – proves itself no exception. Perfectly primed for adding a brief repose of light into any deep, murky, peak-time techno set, the single is a knowing wink to TEPR’steenage evolution from American Indie Post Rock to Dance Music. Starting off light and breezy, a euphoric synth arpeggio and increasing layers of indie guitar chords are masterfully morphed by TEPR towards a darker, more electronic segue, the break rising and falling into a strong Techno beat and heavy Moog riff. Ultimately the greatest success of ‘1980’ lies in TEPR’s ability to bring those two worlds together, juxtaposing bright, infectious melody against compelling percussion and bass, immersing the more melodic sensibilities of his earlier work with a new, stronger, dance floor feeling.

TEPR’s background is already illustrious and seasoned. Having cut his teeth as a DJ since his 17th birthday, the Frenchman has gone on to remix Martin Solveig, M83, Calvin Harris ('The Girls'), Santigold ('Say Aha') and more recently David Guetta & SIA ('Flames'). He spent 8 years in different groups, including Woodkid and the much beloved outfit Yelle, before concentrating on his own unique brand of muscular, emotive dance music. Whether producing blissful 8-minute 4am club soundtracks, or vital 3-minute pop songs, TEPR has shown time and again his versatility and dexterity. His unique style seeks new pathways of melody, sound, intensity and attitude.
