Ace Announced as New 1xtra Live Lounge Presenter

BBC Radio 1Xtra today announced Ace as the new presenter of the 1Xtra morning (weekdays, 10am-1pm), taking over from Trevor Nelson from January 2017.

As part of the morning slot, Ace will also inherit the coveted Live Lounge slot which has seen the likes of Ed Sheeran, A$AP Rocky, Miguel, Jess Glynne, Stormzy and Chance The Rapper pass through the world famous studios to perform their own hits, as well as unexpected covers.

Ace has presented the 1Xtra weekend breakfast show (6-10am) where he has combined his passion for music and sport, with his popular ‘In The Barber’s Chair’ feature drawing in guests such as professional boxer Anthony Joshua, which has proven popular on 1Xtra’s YouTube channel. He has previously co-hosted the 1Xtra drive time slot (4-7pm).

Ace says: "It's an absolute honour to be taking over from the broadcasting legend that is Trevor Nelson. I'm very excited to be on 1Xtra hosting performances from some of the biggest and freshest acts on the scene in the iconic 10am-1pm home of the Live Lounge.”

Trevor Nelson – who has been a staple of 1Xtra since 2007 – will be the new presenter of the 4-7pm weekend show on Saturdays and Sundays. Trevor’s Saturday show will play the very best in current RnB, while his Sunday show will be all about old skool RnB classics, before handing over the reins to David Rodigan’s reggae show (7-9pm).

Trevor Nelson says:  ‘It’s been an honour to be part of 1Xtra since I started back in 2007 and I have loved every minute of the last five years watching some of the biggest performers in the 1Xtra Live Lounge. I can’t wait to start my new weekend show and continue playing the biggest tracks and making the show my own.”

Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1 and 1Xtra says: “Ace has an infectious love and energy for 1Xtra, its music, its culture and I can’t wait to hear him five days a week. Trevor continues to be a pivotal part of the station with two exciting new shows, and we welcome Mim to the 1Xtra family, as we continue to find new, young talent for the BBC.”
