Ben Rainey Drops Uplifting Track ‘Be Your Girl’

Ben Rainey reveals his new single, the ultimate feel-good summer house anthem ‘Be Your Girl’, released via EMI / Positiva. The uplifting track is Ben’s first release on a major label, having already gained millions of listeners globally for his independently released, instant dance hits. The Hull-based artist has a series of new music lined up ready for release over the coming months.

‘Be Your Girl’ is an irresistible slice of uplifting vocal house and the perfect introduction to Ben, whose infectious personality shines through his music. The idea for the track came to Ben after playing a DJ gig in Liverpool last winter. “We played in a converted church and the vibe was massive vocals, feel good pianos with classic house melodies. The energy was crazy,” he explains. “‘Be Your Girl’ is uplifting piano house with a classic house touch, the chords are very 90s sounding and I think it will appeal to old school and up-and-coming alike!”

Ben created the track at his home studio in Hull, and he remains fiercely proud of his northern heritage. Growing up between two of Hull’s most colourful estates just before social media and technology took over the world has given him a grounded view of the world. “I am so lucky to have spent everyday of my childhood outside playing football, rugby, biking and sneaking out past my curfew to play another game of heads and volleys.”  Ben has also made a name for himself in his hometown by becoming the official DJ for Hull City Football Club, playing sets pitch-side before matches at the MKM Stadium.

A self-taught producer, Ben was inspired to get into DJing when he turned 18, after seeing Graham Park at a local club night. “I remember walking in there, hearing Graham drop ‘Space Cowboy (David Morales Remix)’, and being in absolute admiration of a master at work. That was the light bulb moment when I realised this was something I wanted a slice of.” Teaching himself to DJ in his bedroom soon led to playing gigs, and within a couple of years he had the itch to create his own tracks to play out.

The musical seed was sown early, growing up in a music-loving household. “My parents are absolute legends when it comes to musical knowledge, and have one of the most impressive vinyl collections I’ve ever seen – although I’m not allowed to touch it!” he says, “I was brought up listening to 90s House, Funky House, Soul, Disco, Funk, Motown & Northern Soul so that’s always played a huge influence on my sound and taste.”

In addition to his love for music, Ben is an ambassador for the men’s mental health charity ‘Andy’s Man Club’. Getting involved initially after the tragic loss of his best friend, Ben found the organisation to be hugely supportive and has since become a part of the team himself, raising thousands of pounds through his own music and DJ sets, something he is keen to continue into the future. “My goal is to help encourage the younger people in my audience to talk more, seek help and stop anyone going through what my friend, myself, and all of our family and friends went through, that is my driving force.”
