Juan Maclean’s Peach Melba - Boy EP

Juan MacLean is a DJ and producer who began his dance music production career as one of the founding acts of the iconic NYC label DFA Records. In 2011 Juan enlisted singer Amy Douglas, a formidably talented singer in the vein of classic Disco and House, for vocals on his new project Juan Maclean’s Peach Melba. His Peach Melba productions are gritty and raw, favouring grit over polish, and he bestows his sweet Peach Melba on Classic with this three track EP.

Lead track ‘Boy’ establishes a solid, deep groove that drives a minimal vocal from Douglas, who also co-wrote the EP, and creates a sense of intense forward motion. ‘Hit The Streets’ is more introspective; whirling synths and syncopated percussion builds toward a midway drop that begs to be a peaktime showpiece. Finally, ‘Coming Out’ is tough and angular but there are moments of real warmth too. In short, this is one of the smartest, most dynamic techno EPs you are going to hear this year.
