Electronic Producer munro releases ‘About You’

Wistful Electronic producer munro released his latest single ‘About You’ on the 28th of October via Quality Goods Records. The song premiered on CLASH Magazine and follows the release of ‘Better Off Not Knowing’ and ‘Ever Day (Is Always The Same)’, which were shared under the producer’s new alias, where he explores new genre territory, specifically UK Garage and Indie Pop. He has earned significant support from tastemaker publications such as This Song Is Sick, Dancing Astronaut, Earmilk, EDM Identity, FUXWITHIT, and Acid Stag. On airwaves, his music has been played by ABC’s triple j unearthed and has been featured on numerous Apple podcasts hosted by industry legends such as Alison Wonderland, Slander & NGHTMRE and Zeds Dead. On Spotify, he was added to the Viral 50 USA charts as well as the creamy editorial playlist, while on YouTube he has been featured, multiple times, on the heavyweight channel Trap Nation in addition to appearing on AllTrapMusic and All Things Trap among others, helping him reach over 15 million streams across platforms.

Native to Auckland, New Zealand, Ian Munro is only just beginning his journey under the munro alias. The producer has spent the past half-decade refining his sound and honing his charisma on stage, playing sold-out shows alongside Trap legend UZ at SXSW and Quality Goods Records’ LA showcase. Along the way, he has gained recognition from some of the industry’s most prominent acts, namely Diplo, Skrillex, Hardwell, RL Grime, San Holo and more. Taking his inspiration from the likes of Fred Again.., Four Tet and Lapalux, the producer’s sound touches on aspects of FLUME, ODESZA and Ross From Friends.

In an ocean of haunting nostalgia, ‘About you’ swims through wave after wave of warm memory, pulsating to the rhythm of the downbeat. Each brittle vocal shard floats like a mote of dust caught in a sunbeam. Suspended, they begin plummeting into a pool of glittering synths, floating on the oscillating currents of munro’s immaculate production.

munro describes the emotions that stimulated his creativity: “There’s a really bold, assertiveness in the vocals that just floors me, and it really set the scene for the writing process. It doesn’t feel as hopelessly melancholic as, I guess I typically lean into, but it still maintains a level of, albeit, sobering sadness to it.”
