For fans of Justin Timberlake and D’Angelo

JMSN at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (Wednesday 2nd November)

Detroit singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, mixer, and videographer JMSN (pronounced Jameson in case you were wondering) started recording his own music aged 12.

His latest album ‘It Is’ draws influences from the likes D’Angelo, and Donny Hathaway and fuses elements of jazz, blues and soul across a palette of impeccable production. This is an essential ticket for any early noughties Justin Timberlake fans out there!

For fans of Battles

Three Trapped Tigers at Patterns, Brighton (Sunday 13th November)

With the raw energy of rock music, freedom of improvisation and circularity of electronica, Three Trapped Tigers conjure the contained intensity of their namesake. Inspired by artists like Aphex Twin and Autechre, Tom Rogerson (keyboards, electronics, vocals) formed the band in London with Matt Calvert (guitar, synthesizer, electronics) in 2007, aiming to capture the Warp records vibe in a live format. The addition of Adam Betts (drums, electronics) solidified the group.

Back this year after a 5-year break with new material co-produced with the likes of Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (Underworld), this live show is an essential.

For fans of Mount Kimbie and The Weeknd

Basecamp at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (Monday 28th November)

Hailing from Nashville, Basecamp create moody, electronic pop songs with subtle, glitchy production effects, haunting cello and R&B-inspired vocals. Reminiscent of garage and post dubstep artists like Mount Kimbie and SBTRKT, they are rated by the likes of Skream, Benga and Skrillex – who signed them to his OWSLA imprint last year. Check their stunning EP out here

Their blend of styles and emphatic live show has been making waves on London’s underground gig scene for a while and now the band are about to step firmly in to the lime light. Blending electronic and live elements they seamlessly bridge the gap between gig and club to dynamic effect.

Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen
Address: Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, 2-4 Hoxton Square I London, N1 6NU
Nearest tube: Old Street / Liverpool Street / Shoreditch High Street

One of East London’s most vital small music venues, Florence & The Machine, Foals, Grimes, Mumford & Sons, and Savages have all played the venue’s 300 capacity live room early in their careers. Mothership (the team behind The Book Club, Queen of Hoxton, and Patterns in Brighton) took over the venue in November 2015. With a firm priority on safeguarding the venue’s live legacy they have also been developing a more diverse programme of events including new club programming, film screenings and photography exhibitions.

Patterns
Address:  Patterns, 10 Marine Parade, Brighton and Hove BN2 1TL

With a hand built DJ booth upstairs, Patterns’ light-drenched ground floor bar is a hangout of lush sound where you can knock back cocktails, craft beers and loaded hot dogs from The Dog Haus and enjoy a varied programme of music and culture events. Downstairs is designed purely for gigs and dancing in the dark, with sonic experience at the top of the agenda. After testing two of the world’s leading systems head-to-head in the space, we opted for an impeccable L’Acoustics sound system – a key component for club and live music fans alike.

Patterns South facing wood-decked terrace is built for sunshine and sipping. An urban oasis of tropical potted palms, bright pastel coloured furniture and upcycled oil drum tables, the elevated space boasts unrivalled sea views. Come nightfall the twinkling lights of Brighton Pier provide an iconic sight.
