Chicago born and raised, Dan Snow brings a unique sound to the scene, as his Classical and Jazz musical training shines brightly through his use of intricately interwoven riffs & melodies. Inspired by his hometown-born House genre, he has branched his sound into Techno, with highly individual fusions of cinematic and percussive layers. As one half of Extended Play (with Josh Dupont) his work has featured on labels such as Bedrock, Crosstown Rebels, Mindwarp and Prisoner of Love. Now, Dan Snow steps out on his own for his first solo EP on Chris Fortier’s respected FADE imprint.
Opening with the subtle, gently building ‘Accise’, Dan’s credentials as a master of hypnotic groove creation are immediately apparent. Here he paints an ever-evolving, enthralling, audio landscape with layers of perfectly considered and arranged musical elements. Bringing his masterful use of delicate percussive components to the fore, ‘Collide’ follows, fizzing with tension on a hip-twitching, stripped back groove.
In contrast, EP title track ‘Frenzy’ is big on enchanting interwoven melodies and pure groove power, all fused together by yet more intricate attention to detail within the arrangement, creating a track that will be at home on any of the world’s best underground dancefloors. Finally, and launching the building energy levels of the EP to a climactic peak, ‘Ignite’ continues down a similar path as Dan’s love of perfectly layered musicality continues to shine on. Dan Snow is definitely one to watch in 2017 and beyond.
