Funk The Format Festival – Saturday 17th June

Following their hugely successful debut festival, Funk The Format is back with a bang for 2017 and a UK Festival exclusive headliner: Goldie and The Heritage Orchestra Ensemble, live!

‘The Journey Man’, Goldie’s much-hyped new double album – the first in almost two decades- is released June 16th, the day before the jungle/ drum and bass pioneer headlines Funk The Format Festival with the chart-topping Heritage Orchestra Ensemble on Saturday 17thJune.

Festival-goers will witness brand new, carefully selected Goldie cuts performed live with the outstanding Heritage Orchestra musicians, from the forthcoming album (16 new tracks featuring stunning vocalists like Terri Walker, Natalie Duncan and Jose James) alongside Goldie’s seminal ‘Timeless’ classics.

Goldie will be in great company, performing in the tree-lined, central setting of Hove Park, Brighton & Hove, alongside British soul singer Alice Russell, who, after playing Glastonbury festival last year, is set to make a huge return with new music on the way. Joining Alice on the bill is Notting Hill Carnival’s main man, Norman Jay MBE, UK hip hop honchos The Nextmen, superstar lyricist Rodney P alongside DJ Skitz and Darrison, the brilliant Brighton-based Neon Saints Brass Band, Worldwide FM’s Sophie Callis, vinyl guru Mr Shiver, Tru Thought’s Robert Luis, slick mixer Nick Maxwell and many more.

All the music is carefully selected by the festival’s director, ex music journalist Lucy ‘Elle J’ Small- known in the late nineties and early noughties for writing about artists like Amy Winehouse, Dizzee Rascal and Ms Dynamite before they were signed. As a champion of new music, Elle J is super excited about little-known foursome Kudu Blue and quickly booked them to play the main stage with their “nostalgia tinged influences, from 90's trip-hop to 00's garage.”

Funk The Format is an over-18s festival specialising in soul, hip hop, disco, funk, reggae, jungle, jazz and related sounds. The sister festival to Funk The Family (approaching its fourth year), Funk The Format launched last year in Hove Park to just under 4,000 music lovers. Team FTF are known and loved for creating a beautiful atmosphere through carefully selecting exceptional live music, DJs, fantastic entertainment, activities, walkabout acts and delicious, locally-sourced food and drinks.

This year, Funk The Format are proudly supporting the Brighton & Hove division of Mind- an exceptional charity supporting better mental health.
