Hackney Downs Free Festival reveal plans for their Easter Weekend Extravaganza

Electric Star Pubs & The Star by Hackney Downs are pleased to announce the first ever Hackney Downs Free Festival, taking place this bank holiday weekend on Sat 29th August. Complete with tasty street-food grub, local craft beers and tropical cocktails, plus entertainment in the form of We Are The Sunset DJ’s for the grown-ups and Hackney Playbus for the little ones, Hackney Downs Free Festival promises a day full of end-of summer vibes.

After successfully running family and community street parties around The Star of Bethnal Green, the East London pub group takes the fun in the greener direction of the park. Held in the Northwest section of Hackney Downs by Downs Road between 12pm and 8pm, The Hackney Downs Free Festival supports local charities including Oxjam, Hackney Downs User Group & Hackney Mosaic. Hackney Playbus will be entertaining the local kids all day, as well as a bouncy castle and glittery fun from face painters.

Music on the day comes from Sunday party crew ‘We Are The Sunset,’ the Balearic-inspired get together whose sounds roll from blissed-out psychedelic bangers to odd-ball disco cuts. The We Are The Sunset family will be playing in the E5 boozer, with Nick the record (DJ Friendly Records), Frank Tope (Wild Geese), Piers (Soft Rocks), Chuggy (Emotional Response) and Andy Taylor (We Are The Sunset) on selector duties.

HDFF’s bar features craft beer selectional by fantastic local breweries such as Five Points Brewery, Camden Town Brewery as well as cocktails by Craft Cocktail Co. And for when you get peckish, there’s an array of delectable traders on hand, including Tiberi Barcelona Munchies, with fusion flavours of Barcelona and London, with a tapas twist. Chilli Cha Cha will be on hand with mouthwatering tandoori and peri peri flavours cooked fresh and wrapped in their signature naan bread, veggie options include wraps with paneer, halloumi or pakora. Roast pork specials come from Salty Loins, London’s newest pop-up pork vendor providing delicious and unique pork cuts, and for dessert, ice cream, sorbets, sherbets and granitas come from Sorbitium Ices, London’s best ice cream (ES Magazine.)

Event will run from 12pm until 8pm and will have a covered area.
