HARLEY GIRL – ‘Friction’

By Jez Ryan August 19, 2026 2 min read

Australian producer/DJ HARLEY GIRL returns with his latest single, ‘Friction’, a slick fusion of garage and UK-bass music, pairing shimmering, off-kilter synths with a gritty captivating vocal hook.

Originally started in January, the track finally clicked into place after HARLEY GIRL discovered a vocal sample on Tracklib from Kenyan group Team Pyscho. The contrast between the vocal’s tight, rhythmic delivery and the fluid movement of the instrumental became the defining characteristic of the song, resulting in a track that feels both hypnotic and full of momentum.

“I started ‘Friction’ early in January of this year. It’s a combination of a few of my favourite things at the moment – really glidey synths with a touch of dissonance in some of the chords and voicings. I found this incredible track by a group from Kenya called Team Pyscho. It was about 20 BPM slower, but the phrasing and energy was magnetic. I was really drawn to this vocal that felt quite on-grid, in contrast to the synths I’d played that felt like they slid in between the grid in a way.” ~ HARLEY GIRL

‘Friction’ also marks the beginning of a new chapter for HARLEY GIRL, showcasing his knack for crafting club-ready productions and setting the tone for an exciting run of music from one of Australia’s most exciting electronic producers.
