The multi-disciplined Jay Haze has well over a decade of focus in photography, film, music and video. Jay´s interest in peace activism has drawn him off the dance floor and deep into disaster zones, jungles and slums of the worlds most notorious regions. “Jay has been a friend and mentor to us for more than a few years now. Not only is he a huge funk head, whose music we love, but we’ve spent many special moments looking out over the ocean from his beautiful apartment on the coast in Lima, Peru. One of the first unreleased songs he sent us back in 2012, even before we launched the label, was “Take A Dip”, a quintessential Jay Haze groove that added some serious guitar riffs and a solo that sent it to the stratosphere. We played it outside in the morning at Hideout Festival in Croatia that year and the reaction was immense, and was then followed by a year of tweets and emails asking what the song was. One song does not make an EP and we’re very picky about our EPs here on The Mothership. It wasn’t until Jay send us two magical tracks that featured by an intriguing, exotic string instrument called the Mulatar built and played by his musical collaborator Jordi Lockruf that we had the full package. “Peru Berlin Connection” and “Mulatar House” are the first songs to ever be released that feature the Mulatar and we’re honored to have this special and very personal release on our label.”

“This EP is super special for me not only because I was able to introduce a new instrument to the world via vinyl (how cool is that?), but it was made with friends, and with the intention to put more music into electronic dance music. The song “Take A Dip” was recorded with Signor Andreoni on the beach in Sardinia, a magical moment – simplistic but to a feeling! The other songs were made with Jordy Lockruf, a man who not only possesses an immense natural talent for string instruments, but also makes them by hand himself! We have taken this record as an opportunity to showcase the Mulatar, this beautiful all wood instrument, which consists of a bass, harp and percussions on the back and sides. The sound of this instrument is so distinct because of the way it slides. It is a slide instrument, with wax contact to wood. At this point there have been 16 of them made by hand, and the sound of this beautiful instrument continues to mesmerize every time we play her.”
