Magda, Mathew Jonson, Daniel Bell, Nicolas Lutz and Matthew Burton to headline brand new soiree Chord at The Rainbow Venues…
This November 19th, the underground powerhouse that is Birmingham’s The Rainbow Venue is to once again become the centre of the dance universe when Chord line-up an exceptional array of house and techno talents for a nine hour party. World class talents Magda, Mathew Jonson live, Jane Fitz, Daniel Bell, Nicolas Lutz, Matthew Burton, BLM, Luke Black and Birmingham locals Lopaski, Lewis Oxley and Tom Craven and more will all play across the Warehouse, Roof Terrace and Black Box.
Chord is an exciting new concept that brings together brands and promoters from all over Europe that have real party know how. With a focus on high quality connoisseur sounds, Luke Black is the main man behind this project and has teamed up with Tom Craven to curate this exciting new project. Luke has more than ten years’ experience in the game having booked a real who’s who of international stars in his time in London and Berlin; and Tom is a well known Birmingham head having featured heavily for Below and around The Rainbow since day one as well as promoting his Evolve parties (with Lopaski & Unai Trotti) and Illusion Recordings label. Chord is brought to you by ClockWork music, a professional promotion and production company who know how to make the fine little details all add up to a sensory stimulating, sonically spot on party that will stick long in the mind. This one will be no exception.
The Rainbow Venue, of course, is a sprawling events space with many different vibes across urban areas, bars, a cosy second room, terrace and a warehouse. Minimal lighting will be added to help augment the raw, old school feel of the rave, and as such the scene is set for a truly spine tingling techno event this November.
Playing the Warehouse will be Luke Black warming things up, plus Items & Things boss Magda, who hasn’t played in the region for nine years. The minimal techno and dark wave disco temptress has a fascinating sound that always keeps the floor full. Playing after her will be globetrotting Canadian live specialist and melodic, elegant techno titan Mathew Jonson. “We booked Mathew Jonson because he has the rudest live set I have ever seen,” says the promoter, aptly. Last but not least, cult selector Jane Fitz (Night Moves founder and Freerotation resident), who has somewhat of a devoted following in Birmingham after her many appearances, also plays. Her sound veers from infectious and techy to deep and house-y and she is regarded as a real DJ’s DJ.
On the Roof Terrace Matthew Burton will be playing live alongside BLM. Matthew hasn't played Live in Birmingham since he moved back to the UK from Berlin. He will be playing his brand new live set for the first time at this event and we’re told it has a proper stomping dancefloor vibe. He will be using only hardware machines and no laptop, so it will be a proper analog live set that is not to be missed. Matthew makes the occasional secret appearance in Birmingham at the infamous street food event, Digbeth Dining Club, where he gets to showcase his eclectic record collection. He is the boss of Shifted Flow and is a producer of sleek and stripped back electronic sounds on labels like Fear of Flying that really make you dance. He will be join by the Fear of Flying boss and Secretsundaze producer BLM, who has a dark, rhythmic sound that is both physical and emotive and has a big following in Birmingham.
The Black Box will be hosted by Evolve for this one, and they line-up a truly heady selection of names including Nicholas Lutz, the cult crate digger and vinyl hoarder. He returns 10 months after he destroyed the last Evolve in the Black Box with Francesco Del Garda. There was such a buzz after his set that night, the crew were really keen to get him back for this date and since then he has played everywhere from Gottwood to Club der Visionaere to Fabric. Last but not least, Detroit’s minimal master Daniel Bell aka, the man behind so many seminal deep techno records like ‘Losing Control’ under his DBX alias. His combination of Chicago grooves, Detroit abstraction and European robotics have defined him as a pioneer of his genre fusing subtle, classy minimalism with a groove and simplicity that never fails. Lopaski and Tom Craven close out this sensational second room.
