The Slow Revolt - Messina

Set for release on September 9th, ‘Sketches’ marks a stunning new song series from native London songwriter Joe Mirza AKA The Slow Revolt. The collection of vastly textured tracks, drawn from ongoing album sessions, reveal a sensibility quite unique to the current landscape of electronic song, a subtly challenging and impressionistic labyrinth of sounds providing the perfect backdrop for the rich pathos of Mirza’s voice. ’Sketches’ is reflective and melancholy in its lyrical turns yet ultimately enlivens, delighting in a patina of detailed beats and warm pulses; a cohort of beautifully entwined ideas.

‘Sketches' comes after a lengthy period of writing, a cluster of glimpses of a new phase, outlines of a body of work coming into focus. Rich in skilfully hewn influences, the EP is bookended by the lurching opener ‘Lean’, with its dancehall beat, breezy Chicago post-rock guitar and Qawwali-indebted vocal refrain betraying Mirza's Pakistani heritage.

The Slow Revolt first surfaced with an early glimpse on Patten’s dense & oblique Fact Mix 285. A raft of finely wrought remixes and EP releases followed, of melodramatic electronic song that melted the divide between guitar and electronic music to the embrace of the blogs, XFM, 6 Music and Radio 1. Earning tour supports across the UK and Europe for Autechre, MMOTHS, Courtney Barnett, the Lucky Me label roster, Nightmares on Wax and Max Cooper; this was a sound at home both with the classicists and the bleeding edge, but bound to neither.
