Sónar Reykjavik 2018 – Final Artists & Warm Up Shows Announced

Sónar Reykjavik, the most glacial outpost of the global festival phenomenon, today announces final names for its 2018 edition.

Joining the likes of previously announced artists including Underworld, Danny Brown, Bjarki, Denis Sulta, Nadia Rose and more will be: high octane trap pioneer and multi-talented musician,TroyBoi; prodigious New York based producer Null + Void (aka Kurt Uenala); Reykjavik based electronic soul band GusGus, who will play an exclusive live show to celebrate their new album,Lies Are More Flexible; and a special DJ set from Janus Rasmussen, one half of experimental and minimalist duo Kiasmos.

Rounding off this year’s bill will be a host of homegrown Icelandic talent, including electropop band Sykur; 19-year old native BRÍET, whose debut self-released single ‘In Too Deep’ is a R&B tinged electropop dream; rapper Elli Grill (member of collective Shades of Reykjavik) and former thrash metal / disco turned rap duo Cyber.

Ahead of the main event on Friday 16th March, Sónar Reykjavik will be kicking off festivities with a series of warm-up shows in the Icelandic capital. On Wednesday 15th March, techno labelbbbbbb will host a showcase at Lucky Records, featuring sets from label founder Bjarki, Volruptus, Lord Pusshwip & EOD. bbbbbb was established last year, filling a gap in the Icelandic dance music scene by “promoting innovation in music that cannot necessarily be categorized as house or techno.”

On Thursday 15th March, two more local labels will be throwing showcases: Thule Records will be taking over Lucky Records with Cold, Waage and Nonnimal during the day, while from 7.30pm, FALK Records, one of the main pillars in Iceland’s DIY music scene, will bring Varg, Zíur, IDK/IDA, Lord Pusswhip & Xarg to Reykjavik’s Húrra Bar.

Elsewhere in the city that evening, Red Bull Music Academy will be hosting artists for a special warm-up event at the old Living Art Museum space at Skúlagata, next to KEX Hostel. Line up TBA.

At Sónar Reykjavik the adventure continues beyond the festival. A must-visit destination, Reykjavik is a cultural hub with an inimitable atmosphere and some of the world’s most famously Instagrammable scenery. There’s plenty to discover within the compact city itself, from pioneering New Nordic cuisine at DILL to drinks at the infamous local institution Kaffibarinn. Beyond the city, there’s a word of awe-inspiring natural sights to explore, from seeing the otherworldlyNorthern Lights to the natural attractions of the Golden Circle. Few other festivals offer you the opportunity to unwind in a geothermal bath before watching heads-down techno in a basement carpark at Harpa.
