March 2015 marks another important career landmark for production mastermind Superlover, releasing his latest single ‘Love Me’ as part of Mother Recordings’ five-track collection ‘Tracks Vol.1’. Berlin based Ferri Borbas, better known under the Superlover moniker has been consistently on the rise since kick-starting his career in 2011 with his hit EP ‘Romance’. Both as a solo act, and as part of the DJ tandem Kassette Boys, Superlover had his productions and remixes picked up by top labels such as: Exploited Records, i! Records, Palms ‘n Flamingos, DLY, Stanjjur, No Brainer Records and Light My Fire.
Whilst his earlier works have embraced the Techno culture preceded by the likes of Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, and Joey Beltram, which took over Germany in the 90s, his present sonic trademark is deeply embedded into House music and its sub-genres whilst merging influences from Disco and Funk. Such distinctive musical character has landed him the opening spot on ‘Tracks Vol.1’ amongst an all-star German collective comprising: David Keno, Claus Casper & Jean Philips, Dry & Bolinger, and Nhan Solo & Dilby.
‘Love Me’ has already turned heads amongst Dance music heavyweights, gaining the early support of: Claptone, Purple Disco Machine, Robosonic, Animal Trainer, Lee Jones, Mickey, Kyodai, Yolanda Be Cool, Boris Dlugosch, David Keno, NikoSchwind, Though Love, and Nhan Solo. Kicking off with an infectious, Deep House inspired groove, ‘Love Me’ establishes a laid-back feel driven by the African-style percussive patterns and deep drums. The retro-sounding synth accents, vocal elements and phasing siren effects add punch to the single whilst concurrently serving a melodic role. Superlover explores the deeper end of the frequency range with an intense, driving bass-line whilst embellishing it with a guitar-like synth pattern. The filtered vocals act to create anticipation for the chunky, funk-infused section to follow. Energy levels are stripped-back, leaving room for clicking glass effects and high pass filtered drum beats to shine whilst intensity is then slowly built again, getting the track back to its full contagious funky-disco factor. This back-and-forth effect is the backbone behind the production’s feel-good aura whilst also providing the necessary contrasting dynamic levels.
House and Disco specialist label Mother Recordings are surely continuing their legacy of embracing some of the best talents around, adding Superlover to their growing roster of artists and remixers, including the like of: Art In Motion, Daniel Dexter, Dannson, Jay West, James Silk, Manuel Sahagun, Teenage Mutants, Adriatique, Andre Crom, Audiojack, Daniel Solar, Fritz Zander, Kruse & Nuernberg, James Silk, Justin Jay, Kyodai, Miguel Puente, NTFO, and Stee Downes amongst many others. Superlover and his fresh single ‘Love Me’ will surely prolong the Berlin based imprint’s reputation of putting out top-notch records.
