Throb Circle – Tara EP

Faceless Recordings return late April with the ‘Tara’ EP, coming courtesy of Throb Circle and backed with a remix from The Classic Music Company’s No Dial Tone.

Throb Circle is the collaborative guise of Belgium’s MGC and France’s Mainro. Together the pair released their first output as Throb Circle with a remix of Mutism in early 2015, offered up via the Faceless Recordings imprint where they return to here for a full release. The Faceless imprint has come a long way since it’s inception in 2013 having now released material from the likes of Jay Tripwire, Chaim, Jon Charnis and Bambook.

Leading the way on the package is title track ‘Tara’ which sees Throb Circle deliver a psychedelic number employing spiritual chants, growling bass hooks and organic percussion to create a unique opening composition. Following is ‘A Wise Speech’ which lays its focus on subtly unfolding melodies with drawn out bass drones and unravelling synth leads while the jangling percussion subtly fuels the mesmeric groove.

Last up from Throb Circle is ‘Song Of Healer’ which layers up an array textures from field recordings of bird songs and murky atmospheres through to rugged bass hits and jazzy sax licks, again creating something refreshing and idiosyncratic. Last up Classic / Leftroom duo No Dial Tone turn in an interpretation of ‘Tara’, reworking the original cut with their signature dark and smoky vibe by laying the focus howling drones, stripped percussion and dubbed out snippets of the original’s chants.
