Mid-April will signal the arrival of Roush sub-label Dubnation Records, with the first V.A. EP welcoming Los Pastores, Alvin Kyer, and Niels Feijen & Lunoize to the Spanish imprint.
Founded by the team behind Hector Couto’s notable Roush label on the Island of Tenerife, Dubnation Records is set to offer an alternate ethos to its house-driven parent label. Focusing on the opposite end of the spectrum, the imprint will set out to offer and champion material that crosses over from the house world into darker territories. For the first Various Artists EP, the label welcomes Roush favourites Los Pastores, alongside German talent Alvin Kyer, and Belgian producers Niels Feijen and Lunoize.
Showcasing a darker side to their work, Los Pastores’ ‘Legs Up’ opens the EP in authoritative fashion, with the duo fusing twisting and warping synth lines with razor sharp percussion shots, before Alvin Kyer’s ‘Keep On Trying’ lays the focus on deep, driving grooves and thundering kicks.
Last up, Niels Feijen and Lunoize combine on ‘Bork’, taking ‘jacking’ influences and translating them into a new sphere, as skipping hats, rolling percussion and energy-building breaks take shape to reveal a peak-time main room cut, shaping up Dubnation Records’ debut offering.
