I House U Meets: Marco Rovere
Since he launched his TBR8 label back in 2016, Italian producer Marco Rovere has been carving out his own, considerable niche in the world of electronic music. Incorporating deep and house influences with modern Techno and Tech House, his production style has won him thousands of fans around the word. With latest single ‘One Way Ticket’, the talented artist takes listeners on a sonic journey through raw techno infused with a fresh, contemporary flair. Hypnotic, driving, and drenched in relentless percussion and bass, the track once again puts him squarely on our radar, so much so that we managed to pin him down to find out what makes him tick, and what’s coming up for the rest of 2024…
Hi Marco, welcome to IHU! Where in the world are you right now, and what are you doing?
A: Good morning! Thank you so much for the opportunity to talk about me and my music journey. Right now, I’m in Italy, back in my home region of Liguria. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio working on some new techno-house tracks, especially after the release of One Way Ticket. It’s been a busy time, but also exciting because I’m diving deeper into my creative process and trying to bring new ideas to life.
How has 2024 been for you so far?
A: 2024 has been an amazing year for me. I’ve had a few key releases that I’m really proud of, such as Represent on Clipper Sound, Macan on Ego Music, and, of course, One Way Ticket on my own label, TBR8. The feedback has been incredible, and I feel like I’ve really found a way to express my musical style through these tracks. Besides the releases, I’ve had the chance to collaborate with some great clubs for live performances, and I also have two monthly radioshow slots on Ibiza Stardust. So, it’s been a year full of growth and exciting opportunities, and I’m really happy with how things are moving forward.
You launched TBR8 way back in 2016. Almost a decade on, how has your sound evolved and where do you feel it’s heading?
A: When I launched TBR8 in 2016, it was about creating a platform where I could freely express my sound and explore different influences. Over the years, my sound has definitely evolved. I started out with a strong focus on techno, but I’ve gradually incorporated more deep and house elements to make it more dynamic and versatile. Now, I aim to create music that fits different moods and settings, from the heavy techno beats for clubs to more relaxed tracks that are perfect for a festival or even a chilled-out vibed tunes. I think my sound is still evolving, and I’m always looking for new ideas and sounds to keep it fresh. It’s heading toward a blend of energy and atmosphere, but always staying true to my roots in techno.
How has the TBR8 project as a whole influenced your overall career?
A: TBR8 has had a massive impact on my career. It gave me the space to develop my own style without constraints and allowed me to collaborate with some really talented artists. These collaborations have been essential in broadening my perspective, introducing me to new ideas and helping me grow both personally and musically. Through TBR8, I’ve learned the importance of always staying open to what others bring to the table. It’s made me a better producer and artist by showing me how to blend my vision with fresh influences, creating something unique each time. The project has been a driving force in shaping my career.
It’s always hard to stay true to yourself in the music industry, especially when certain trends are on the rise and producers are jumping on bandwagons to get the streams and likes. How do you managed to stay authentic to your vision?
A: Staying authentic is really important to me. In the music industry, it’s easy to get caught up in trends or feel pressured to follow what’s popular, but for me, it all comes down to passion. As long as I’m passionate about what I’m doing, I know I’m staying true to myself. I create music that resonates with me, and I don’t want to force anything just for the sake of getting more streams or likes. If the day comes when I don’t feel excited about making a track or playing in a club, I know I’d lose that authenticity. So, it’s all about keeping that love for music alive and making sure every track reflects who I am as an artist.
On ‘One Way Ticket’ you blend Techno, Deep, and House – how does this reflect your creative inspiration?
A: With One Way Ticket, I wanted to capture a balance between power and lightness. The strong techno beats represent the energy and drive you need to tackle life head-on, while the deeper, more mellow sounds add a layer of calm and reflection. It’s kind of how I see life: you need both intensity and serenity to get through things. The blend of techno, deep, and house in the track reflects my creative process, which is always about combining different elements to create something that’s both energizing and uplifting. I wanted the track to feel like a journey that carries you through different emotions, much like life itself.
What’s next for you after One Way Ticket and can we expect more of the same, or is there something new on the horizon?
A: After One Way Ticket, I’ve got quite a few projects lined up! There are more releases already scheduled for the next few months, and I’m working on completing some new tracks in the studio right now. I’m always looking to evolve my sound, so while there will definitely be elements similar to One Way Ticket, I’m also excited to explore some new directions. I hope to keep surprising listeners with new collaborations and fresh sounds, while staying true to my passion for techno and house. There’s always something new on the horizon, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
