Ocha Records Brings a Host of Talent Together for ‘One More Time’

Ocha Records welcomes in 2023 with the first of several sophisticated doses of quality underground house music. Renowned Chicago-based DJ/Producer Vick Lavender graces the label with a blissful Afro-Cuban, jazz-inspired cut ‘One More Time’, featuring the sublime vocals of Amma Whatt. Released on 20th January, the package also comes complete with an interpretive mix from Ocha’s label boss and acclaimed DJ/Producer Casamena (Carlos Mena), whose trademark ‘Living Room’ spin gives its predecessor’s jazz and bossa nova flavours a new soulful house identity. As a DJ and producer, Vick Lavender has been a global music aficionado for over 30 years and continues to elevate the genre of deep & soulful house music by creating unique rhythms and world beats representing jazz/soul fusion, as well as Afro-Cuban rhythms. His mastery of this unique sound taps into the atavistic desire to dance, and with the stylish ‘One More Time’ he hits the mark once again.

Fresh off a 56-show tour spanning Europe and the US, Brooklyn native Amma Whatt is known to audiences around the world as an intuitive and insightful songwriter and singer – whether she’s lending what the New York Times says are her “silk-infused vocals” to bands like Nate Smith and Kinfolk or teaching children vocal self-expression and rhythm. Her sultry vocal on ‘One More Time’ glides across Vick’s quality production to create something very special.

Carlos Mena a.k.a Casamena was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn with childhood summers in the Dominican Republic. He soaked up the vast array of sounds to form a unique foundation for his music sensibilities that can be heard throughout his music today. Carlos has produced music for platinum-selling artists, including labels, Defected, Yoruba Records, Vega Records, Freerange, and Nervous Records. His remix of ‘One More Time’ takes the jazzy groove to a deeper house level, and in these cold winter months delivers a tune which is dripping in sunshine.

Ocha Records continues to push to the corners of creativity in dance music while never sacrificing what Carlos Mena, and the Ocha family know feels good in their souls. The label consistently supports dance music from the Africa diaspora, giving a platform to new South African artists, while also featuring such luminaries on the label as Osunlade, Black Coffee, DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, Danny Krivit, Quentin Harris, Deetron, the late Paul Johnson, Timmy Regisford, Ezel, Boddhi Satva, Sacred H3art, Atjazz and more. Ocha means ‘spirit’ or ‘deity’ in the Yoruba religion of Ifa, and like the name, dance music fans will always find spirit and soul in the music of Ocha Records.
