The Populists – Bakchich EP

The Populists – Bakchich EP

Essential French label Zone serve up more rugged club grooves from The Populists.

Next to working with the legend that is Arnaud Rebotini on his earliest albums, Yan Wagner aka The Populists has also released his unique brand of techno and electro on Space Factory and Her Majestys Ship. This alias is an occasional one saved for special dance floor material and that is the case again here.

Opener ‘Bakchich’ is an arresting dark disco workout with serrated bass and laser-like synths shooting over the face of the groove. It’s punky electronic music that is full of attitude.

Next up is the brilliantly bumping ‘Pan Pan’, with reverberating rubber kicks and coarse claps making you move your body. It is expertly produced music with a rugged edge that evolves into a writhing dance floor banger.

Last of all, ‘Gumba’ finishes the EP in style with more of Wagner’s corrugated drum funk, lithe synth action and brilliantly stark and stripped back grooves that cannot fail to electrify the club.

This is another devastating EP of essential and timeless electronic sounds.
