Representing fresh new sounds, evolutionary production, the present and the future of UK electronic music are house music beast and Naked Naked label boss Breach, who leads the charge, Bristol’s enigmatic beats titan and XOYO resident Eats Everything, who plays an exclusive jungle set, deep house dominator Ben Pearce, bass head Eliphino, who makes his second appearance in the Boxfresh 25, and Black Butter’s My Nu Leng.
Pioneering UK garage head Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont, Shut Up And Dance and drum’n’bass don and original Shut Up And Dance collaborator DJ Hype demonstrate the rich history of the UK underground from 1989 – the year it all began for Boxfresh and a pivotal time in the evolution of the UK’s rave culture and club scene – right the way up to the present day.
This staggering lineup will be kept in line by NTS face Moxie who’ll play a set and act as host throughout the broadcast. And with even more surprise guests and additional content promised, NTS x Boxfresh 1989FM Takeover promises to be a fast-paced and frenetic all-out original roadblock.
This year Boxfresh, one of the UK’s most iconic street wear brands, celebrates its 25th anniversary with an incredible roster of 25 events. The NTS x Boxfresh 1989FM Takeover and the soon-to-launch 1989FM online radio platform are just two of the standout events that form the Boxfresh 25 campaign that celebrate the part Boxfresh has played in youth culture since 1989.
Launching with this special NTS takeover, 1989FM will be an online hub for all Boxfresh music and youth culture content, with special music highlights including sets recorded at Boxfresh 25 events, plus bespoke programming streamed live including interviews with artists, acts and creatives, exclusive audio from participating DJs and much more. An ongoing radio channel on boxfresh.com, 1989FM will also host further takeovers and events throughout the year.
NTS Radio is an independent and influential online radio project that broadcasts worldwide from its home in east London. Bringing together the ideas and creativity of like-minded and musically diverse people, performers and tastemakers from the UK and beyond, NTS Radio is a platform and progressive community that has reached unprecedented heights.
Another don’t-miss Boxfresh 25 event coming soon is Boxfresh presents Skreamizm on Saturday May 10 at London’s Electric Brixton. Boxfresh hosts the London leg (and the last date) of the Skreamizm UK tour, a banger of a party that will see Skream headlining alongside a handpicked lineup that will be announced in the coming months. With RC1 Sound System to add extra weight to the occasion, it promises to be the biggest and heaviest Skreamizm event to date.
NTS x Boxfresh 1989FM Takeover will be streamed live at ntslive.co.uk on Friday February 28 from 12pm to 6pm as Boxfresh launches 1989FM.
