James Cherry - Break Somebody
Twenty-three year old Leicester native James Cherry today unveils Break Somebody, the latest offering from his highly anticipated debut EP.
Showcasing his soulful vocals, honest songwriting and ardent lyricism that is fast becoming Cherry’s signature; Break Somebody is a deeply personal story, fueled by raw emotion. With Cherry’s distinctive vocals slicing through the distinctive production; “Yeah – I’m talking to you, how can you live with what you do!” Cherry commands the listener in the track’s arresting chorus – an unmistakable statement of intent from this One To Watch act.
Given the musical maturity evident in Break Somebody; it’s difficult to comprehend that little over a year ago Cherry was working in a bar, collecting glasses whilst collecting stories. Following Dean Jackson’s selection of Cherry’s emotive first offering Cry Myself To Sleep for BBC Introducing, the track went on to be championed by both Huw Stephens and Annie Mac. This support and his sold out hometown show provided Cherry with the ammunition to make music his life in 2016.
2016 has so far seen Cherry perform standout sets at both Dot To Dot Festival and Radio 1’s Big Weekend, be lauded by a wealth of tastemaker publications including Hilly Dilly, NOTION, Complex and CLASH and announce his debut headline tour. A fashion-conscious artist with a clean-cut aesthetic, Cherry has rounded off this year and solidified his style credentials with the recent unveiling of his collaboration with Fred Perry.
