Fathia - Encoding
Fathia is next up on the fledging EXYZT label with a brace of brilliant techno tracks.
Fathia is of Afghan heritage and is based in Hamburg. She is a new artist starting to make a mark and has been hailed by the BBC as one of the first DJs to come from Afghanistan. She has already made a mark locally by opening up for the likes of Adam Beyer and DJ Anna, and is soon to go global on the evidence of this new EP.
Up first is ‘Encoding’, which is eight brilliantly atmospheric minutes of deep techno. Driving drums and frosted synths race along as curious chords bring intrigue to the grooves. The track burrows ever-deeper and is sure to get clubs marching as one.
On the flip, ‘Decoding’ is more mysterious, building the suspense with warped synths and deft little bits of sound design, teasing with kicks before they land proper. The release of tension when they come is sure to be huge on the dance floor, and the unsettling nocturnal mood is one that really sucks you in.
This is a fine label debut from an artist who is genuinely breaking new ground.
