More revealed for Belgium’s stunning Paradise City Festival

The future looks rosy for Paradise City. After all, if we all work together to reduce our collective ecological footprint, there is no reason for pessimism! Now in its third year, the greenest of festivals has earned itself a fixed place on the Belgian festival calendar and it seems to have won the public over with its green-but-not-tree-hugging concept. Paradise City is proof that sustainable organising really is possible without sacrificing the quality of the line-up or the overall festival experience. On the contrary!

Three days

A new feature this year is that the festival will be spread over three days. However, no separate tickets will be sold for Friday evening (23 June). Only the holders of a camping or weekend ticket will be able to enjoy the heavenly beats at Perk castle on Friday evening.

Comfort deck

Another new feature this year is the comfort deck that will be set up right next to the gourmet festival restaurant, offering a panoramic view of the festival. It is the ideal place to relax after an exquisite meal or to enjoy a drink with your friends.

Butler service

If you do not feel like making your way over to the bar or food truck, you can use the Tsjing app on site, just like last year. It is an easy way to have your food and drinks delivered right to where you are by scanning a QR code. Unlike last year, however, we will be charging a price per order for this service instead of a flat fee.

Chef Sofie Dumont

“Try everything and keep what is good” is gradually becoming the Paradise City organisers’ motto after two festivals. So just like last year, we will be setting up a gourmet restaurant with chef Sofie Dumont at the helm. The concept – a three-course meal made of super-fresh organic produce – was so popular that it would be a crime not to do it again.

Free cardboard tents

Another feature that is here to stay is the camp site, which will open on Friday. Just like last year, campers will be able to use a Kartent totally free of charge: a cardboard (but waterproof) tent that will be fully recycled afterwards. “Ordinary” tents are allowed as well, but only if the campers take everything home with them afterwards.

Line-up

We can already announce the first artists who will be appearing at Paradise City: John Talabot, Andhim, Pierre, Acid Pauli, Audion Live, Jan Blomqvist & Band and Kornel Kovacs.

Tickets for Paradise City are on sale at paradisecity.be/tickets and cost 48 euros for one day or 85 euros for all three days (99 euros including camp site) for early birds.

ABOUT PARADISE CITY

Paradise City was organised for the first time in 2015. The festival stands out from other music festivals because of its idyllic location (Ribaucourt Castle in Perk) and its sustainability. Paradise City aims to be a future-proof festival and makes every effort to reduce its ecological footprint to an absolute minimum. Besides using green energy, limiting waste and offering environmentally sound catering, it goes a step further by providing purified tap water (instead of water in plastic bottles) and by not using food and drink tokens (all payments are made electronically using the pre-loaded festival wristband). In 2016, Paradise City’s approach was awarded the OVAM GroeneVent Award.

Green goals achieved in 2016

●100% recycled landscape
●100% solar energy at the camp site
●95% use of low-consumption LED lighting
●4 generators (as opposed to 9 in 2015)
●159 tonne CO2 footprint (as opposed to 202 tonnes in 2015)
●100% ethically purchased food
●90% vegetarian food on offer
●limited waste flow (no flyers, no tokens, eco cups etc.)
●62% recycled waste (PVC and glass)
●use of filtered tap water to avoid waste
●100 vacuum toilets (no wasted water and no chemicals)
●promotion of carpooling, use of public transport or bicycles
